Japan Beats USA, Wins Women’s World Cup

Even folks who weren’t fans of soccer were glued to TV sets, laptops and mobile phones. But all eyes were on the US Women’s soccer team as they took on Japan. Even President Barack Obama took to Twitter to encourage the US team.

In the end of an epic match-up, Japan took the victory. Some say considering all they went through with the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster at the Fukishima nuclear power plant, this was a much-needed healing victory for all of Japan.

Adding to all the drama, Japan had NEVER beaten the US in head-to-head match ups in 25 matches going into this championship game. Japan fought all the way through regulation, overtime (tying the game 2-2) and finally pulled free in penalty kicks (3-1) for the victory.
