NAAMBA-DC Regional Finding Broad Support

Sanjay Rajpal & Tim Gilday, NAAMBA Washington, DC Regional

In early 2011, the National Association of Asian MBA’s (NAAMBA) Washington, DC regional was formed by co-presidents Ming Liu and Sanjay Rajpal, and directors Tim Gilday and Rameeth Hundle, to better engage members in the DC metro area. NAAMBA-DC has been reaching target members through its affiliation with prominent professional organizations and the top MBA programs in the DC area. NAAMBA-DC has leveraged the unique employment opportunities of the nation’s capital by engaging with corporate, federal and international organizations such as SiriusXM Radio, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), The Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. Additionally, NAAMBA-DC has established a strong working relationship with the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI), including securing a direct greeting letter from President Barack Obama published for NAAMBA’s National Conference held in September 2011.

NAAMBA-DC is currently experiencing tremendous growth, having secured sponsorship from the CIA and SEC, and is working closely with several potential corporate partners to secure additional funding.The DC Regional office has an ambitious agenda planned for this year, which includes several professional development events, as well as expanding its presence and overall value to members.

The NAAMBA university chapters have been making marked progress, as well, with The George Washington University School of Business, Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, and University of Maryland’s R.H. Smith Business School witnessing increases in memberships and ratifications of formal recognition.These teams will take part in their first tri-school event in February 2012, with many more cooperative and individual initiatives planned.

Leadership Opportunities with an Impact

NAAMBA-DC is actively seeking motivated leaders to join its regional leadership team to help coordinate its growing communications and sponsorship activities. Emphasis is placed on leadership and motivation in this challenging non-profit environment which requires excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as time management skills.These positions are voluntary with significant opportunities to engage with leading recruiters and diversity representatives  in the corporate and government space throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
